Financial Assistance for Flood Victims

The devastation and tragedy of the recent floods impacts us all across the country, and our thoughts are with all our affected friends, family and clients at this time.
We would like to let you know that some of the lending institutions will be standing beside their customers now, in the difficult months ahead, by offering clients affected by the floods a range of hardship packages.
This assistance does vary between affected states, but some being offered now include:
- ATM direct charge fees removed for the next two to four weeks,
- suspension of home and personal loan repayments for up to three months, as well as waiver of late fees for home and personal loan repayments,
- the opportunity to suspend credit card payments for one month, waive debit card replacement fees, personal loan establishment fees, and term deposit break costs,
- Government based assistance for emergency housing, clean up grants and business support,
- the ATO have already implemented a range of support strategies to help people affected by the continuing floods, including the deferral of lodgement dates and the implementation of general interest charge (GIC) stoppers for businesses, taxpayers and registered agents.
As there are a variety of hardship packages being offered, please remember as your mortgage specialist, we are here to help you work through some of these options with you. If you have finance through an institution that has no relief, there may be other options we can source for you.
